Awww man, I almost forgot to turn to blackamericaweb.com to listen to Tavis. I used to wait for Tuesday and Thursday to watch for the sweep (B. Geezy) but now...well times and things have changed.

I talked to Corinne yesterday. I knew she was alright. For those who don't know who she is, Corinne was my roommate pre-trini. The story goes like this: That Saturday (look ima stop using caps and unnecessary punc. marks...don't feel like being even halfway formal in my blog) corinne was going to work and i was going by my moms house to chill and sleep over cause i was going to a party that was close to her house. so that morning after the two fire trucks and two police cars later (even longer story) i headed off to my moms house and corinne to work.

neither of us had plans to evacuate so i told her that i would see her sunday. well sunday morning my mom woke me up telling me to go and get my grandma and we were going to go east. i didn't even bother to go by my apt to pick up clothes cause i always pack for a week. long story short i went to georgia (we on the grind cuzin) for a week then to h-town for the remainder of the year, now back at home for a couple of months. everyone had asked me if i heard from my roommate and i told them no cuz she didn't have a cell phone (and still doesn't....corinne if you are reading "GET A CELLY YO!!!!!" well long story short again she found my page on myspace and now we are ebony and ivory in perfect harmony once again (sorry my barcardi to which i am his cola ;-( but im glad she found me but that means that others who i might not want to find me can also get at me...lol

So i'm checking my aol mail and i find out that Coretta Scott King has passed. Rest in peace because you couldn't do that on earth. Situations like this make me uneasy because I am seeing the generation(s) who picked up the torch after the abolition of slavery starting the civil rights movement passing more frequently with each passing year. Johnson, Parks, King all within months of each other, each fought differently but for the common goal. What are we going to do???? Segregation and racism didn't end in the 60s. They exist now more than ever through institutionalized racism in all realms of life, residential segregation (katrina...good example), educational racism (no child left behind????), prison industrial complex/criminal legal (not justice) system. We see pics of MLK, X, Garvey and we see black and white pictures, so far away in time for the 256 pixel world we live in today. So we think that those struggles are so far removed from our society. NO IT IS NOT!!!!! Because i am a college graduate who is pursuing a post-grad degree some may tell me "oh no not you, you're different" NO I'M NOT!!!!! & u don't believe that shit either. Even if you see a fellow brother/sister acting like a nigga, don't for one second think that you are better than he/she cause you got a lil degree under you belt cause in the world we live in race trumphs. Take description for example, I am a Black woman, don't have much clout in the class world yet but for that example, Oprah is a successful woman (i took out Black because of that bullshit colorblind expression) she is Black and is in the top 2% class wise in the country, but in the incident in france her race caused her not to get serviced at that hermes store.
