wow a year ago?
In discussing his white privilege, Robert Jensen makes the point, “We all are the product of both what we will ourselves to be and what the society in which we live lets us be” (Jensen 105). By the recognizing that institutional racism exists is an admission that the accessibility of social mobility and success is not equal to all races. It is also apparent that each of the institutions collude with each other to reinforce institutionalized racism. While it has been proved that residential segregation has so many other effects on the Black life; the federal government has placed a high, “emphasis on personal responsibility, not inequalities in the larger society” (Wilson 331). But, when using the structural approach to understand why Blacks systematically achieve and obtain less than Whites, the answer is often color-based in a self proclaimed color-blind society. Blacks achieve less because of the mere fact that they are Black. As a society that has a recognizes privileges of being White, there is also a recognized disadvantages of being Black.
