So, you're saying the cure couldn't be proactive? Like investing it in public education, health insurance, etc? Or is there a reason for us to wait until this point to intervene and say that the problem exists in overcrowded prisons?
The nation's prison industry now employs more people than any Fortune 500 corporation except General Motors. Is prison labor rehab or corporate slavery?

The proportion of male inmates incarcerated for drug offenses rose from 7.4% to 28.3% between 1983 and 1999. During the same period, the proportion of women inmates incarcerated for drug offenses rose from 12.6% to 43.9%.
From 1980 to 1999, the female inmate population has grown 850%...check out the change in drug laws as it refers to marginalized groups

i am late to this. as a cali resident i can believe it. that's what happens when you get stuck w/ Arnold as the man running the show (i wasn't here when he was elected lol).
he tried to ship off some of our inmates to other states, but that fell through...we have gangs, the racial tension in prison is CRAZY, and the lack of social/vocational programs is a damn shame.
i deal daily with the system (although...not CA..beloved is locked up in NY), but it's pretty much the same. they need more educational/vocational programs so that people are just not thrown on the street with no legitimate skills.
oh...arnold stole, i mean, borried 3 billion from our education monies, then refused to give it back. we (teachers' unions) sued his @ss and just got it back. so they need to INVEST in our communities and our kids instead of trying to build more prisons...but LOGICAL people already know this. we have a bunch of dummies running thangs...i mean...look at our president.

underfunded urban school systems are pipelines to prisons...he figured he'd borrow the money upfront and put it in on the back end
